School Supplies Giveaway in Saint Louis City’s Wells-Goodfellow Neighborhood

Angels of God I.W.C. and DJ Sir Thurl will hosts free School Supplies Giveaway in Saint Louis City’s West side neighborhood on August 13, 2022. This event takes place at Angels of God I.W.C. at 1444 Goodfellow Blvd at Wells Ave from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or while supplies last. Children must be present to ensure every student is served.

Over 5 years ago, Bishop Perry Wilkes and DJ Sir Thurl saw a need to take action in their community. In an area consumed with broken down vacant buildings and high crime, Bishop Wilkes and DJ Sir Thurl wanted to bring something positive to the neighborhood. Introduced to each other by Marcia McDuffie, founder of the Board of Friends Organization, the two began a mission to bring assistance to families in the much overlooked neighborhoods on St. Louis City’s West Side.

Bishop Wilkes and DJ Sir Thurl started West Side Community Day in 2017 in Barret Brothers Park (St. Louis Ave at Goodfellow) to help prepare families to go Back to School with free school supplies giveaway, health screenings, meal kits and more. Every year since its start, the community day has assisted over an average of 300 families per year. After Covid-19, the community day regrouped to offer a “Drive-Thru” format to ensure the safety of anyone participating. There is a walk-up option as well for those without transportation.

Our mission is to connect families and build a stronger community by providing resources and helping children prepare for the school year.

Bishop Perry Wilkes

Bishop Perry Wilkes operates Angels of God International Worship Center , a non-denominational Church in the Goodfellow-Wells neighborhood at 1444 Goodfellow Ave. Bishop Wilkes, known for his saying “Let’s Have Church” is also in high demand as a Special Guest Preacher around St. Louis and the Midwest.

DJ Sir Thurl

DJ Sir Thurl grew up in the same area an attended Laclede School on Goodfellow as a child. Thurl has a long radio history in St. Louis and the Midwest. He has a passion for community service and being one of God’s servants.

West Side School Supplies Drive-Thru in Saint Louis is presented by Angels of God IWC, DJ Sir Thurl and a host of others.
